Position Summary:

The Inventory Control Technician is responsible for receiving, recording, and distributing inventory and supplies. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

+ Delivers freight and parcels to campus departments (daily).

+ Pick up Parcels and freight from campus departments to be shipped out (daily).

+ Pick up US Mail from U.S. Post Office and take to campus departments (daily).

+ Unload/load trucks by hand or forklift, dolly, pallet jack, etc. (daily).

+ Log and process freight and parcels (daily).

+ Fill out pick-up tickets from departments and pick up freight (daily).

+ Check out supplies from warehouse for delivery on work orders such as paper (weekly).

+ Answer phone concerning freight orders, delivery times, etc. (occasionally).

+ Use tracking numbers from log to search for freight (occasionally).

+ Assist with checking out of warehouse parts (occasionally).

+ Deliver keys from Lock Shop or signs from Sign Shop (weekly).

+ Sign out freight to FM and ITS employees using a sign out sheet (daily).

+ Label packages for route loading/make route accordingly (occasionally).

+ Prioritize freight for delivery such as frozen, overnight, event freight, ASAP, etc. (daily).

+ Other duties as assigned (daily).


Knowledge of general inventory control procedures and equipment.

Ability to maintain supplies and inventory records, perform basic mathematical computations, and operate standard office equipment.

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday

7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Additional hours as requested and/or needed

Comp time as necessary depending on workload.


Contact with employees or others primarily at a routine level involving basic information exchange.

Contact with peers and others involving explanation of information (these contacts may be within or outside your unit, department, or division), and the gathering of factual information.

Frequent external contact to gather information, answer queries, or ask assistance.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma

One (1) year of experience in inventory control or related area.

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or parts of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
